Nah I turned off limewire just long enough for it to finish downloading. I got it about two hours after my last post.

I figured I could set back my Full Metal Alchemist addiction two hours in exchange for Spinback and Ruff.

frolic, to setup a torrent i believe you need a tracker for the torrent, i don't know how that works. It would be great if you could just release a friggin massive torrent with all of the mixes in thier own folders and organized and all, then everyone could seed that.

if we do use torrents we NEED DEDICATED SEEDERS, or it will die. I'll seed for atleast 30 days (i can only upload around 100kb/s) if you want to go this route.

This torrent thing confuses me... I think is better just to host all the mixes like in a site and also Weaver is right, seeding can take a long time

hehe i think i'll try to explain torrrents to everyone

torrents are wierd becasue its not like conventional Peer to peer transfering, so thus here how torrents work:

1) The website hosts a torrent file, which is openable in any bit torrent program, Bit comet and azureus are the most popular I believe.

2)This torrent file is very small, only 50kb, so the hosting site does not need to waste massive amounts of bandwidth hosting thier files, then can simply host a torrent!

3)So, the process is this:
-Get a torrent program (Bit comet I really like)
-Click on the link to the torrent file hosted on the hulla site
-This should automatically open up your bit torrent program (such as bit comet) and it will start looking for sources to download from.

4) The last point above is the beauty of it, the sources it looks for are other people just like you and me, people who AREN'T the websever, and they upload the files from eachother. Each source you can download from is called a seed, the more seeders the faster the file.

Now this is a great philosophy, but the only problem is the torrent can "die" is what the term is called. When there is no seeders, no one else can get the file to seed it, thus its kinda a catch 22.

Just right now im trying to get the frolic set from return to the vibe, and there were no sources. But it started downloading, meaning someone with the file opened thier bit torrent cilent and has it in thier list still, thus allowing it to upload!

Since im nice, once its done i'll keep my bit torrent cilent open!

NOW, if you have a slow connection, yes its generous to upload, but you can set limits on the upload speed! So, set an upload speed limit that wont start killing your internet connection. Seeding is nice, but no one is asking you to blow up your modem!

wow thats a mouthful!

There should always be at least one seed, and that would be me.

We had over 100 downloads of the spinback set today alone, so the bandwidth gets eaten real fast. Maybe we could bittorrent the files initially while everyone is grabbing the latest, and then archive them later as a direct download when it's only a trickle.

The other bonus of bittorrent is that I encoded my set from Return of the Vibe at 192k.

We'll probably write some sort of proper faq with links if we impliment this fully.

yeah i think your the seed, uploading at about 50k?
anyways torrent at release sounds like a good idea, we don't want the site to die hehe.

I made that post before the decision was made to use torrents.

Probably a few.

Look at it this way.

Some of the Opera House parties, every set was recorded.

I'll use Sail Away as an example.

There's the 7 CD boxed set.

My set was released seperately.

Only Jare Fox wasn't released.

Add them all up.

That's 9 sets. 9 weeks. Two months, 1 week. For ONE party.

Not to mention there are Hulla @ WEMF recordings. There might even be a few from the Hulla stage at that Dose party back in 2000. At least I think it was a Dose party. God damn that was a long time ago.

Not every set of every party was taped. Most parties it was the headliners only and my sets, sometimes a few others. Only in the last year when we started doing boxes did I tape everything from open to close.

Also if bittorrent continues to work out for us I can speed up the release of the sets since bandwidth was a concern initially.

I just went through my DAT tape collection tonight and can safely say we have many more DAT tapes to encode and add than I have released sets to post. So that will give you an idea of what's to come. Tons of 2nd room stuff as well to add (Madam Zu, Roberto Mascarucci, M-Zone, Orange Peel, Flex, etc...)

I also found DAT originals to....

Anabolic Frolic & E-By-Gum live @ Not The End (pre-dates Hulla)

and...

Anabolic Frolic - THE FROLIC FILES (1996)

ha, yep, the much requested tape. I will release it cause at this point I think people will listen to it in a historical context.

I'm really excited to be able to offer this. Combine that with the documentary which is coming, and other projects that are coming, not to mention this website (all the flyers, tons of pics to post still), I can't see any other promotion touching the kind of historical archive we have left.
