XxLuVBuGxX don't tell your parents anything. Lie and sneak out! That's what I did. I would say I was spending the night with a friend and then we would go to raves. Some parents are hard headed and refuse to acknowledge any information contrary to the beliefs they already hold...

Shoot. I'm 25 and I still have to lie to my mom. I told my mom I was going to an American Psychological Association convention in Toronto the weekend of OMGH. Silly mother... why would they have an American convention in Canada???

They do it all the time for elevator-industry conventions. My dad gets to come up here for elevator conventions a few times a year. They hold them here because it's minimally cheaper, and everybody likes to go to Toronto.

If you can dig up a copy, show her Better Living Through Circuitry. It's pretty good. It doesn't hide from the drug use that happens at raves, but it does a pretty good job at showing that there is a lot more to it.

I'd offer to copy mine, but the DVD broke in two somehow.

What are her thoughts on hippy and disco cultures? There are a great many parralels, if she's friendly to those concepts you could present raves as a modern amalgam of them. Would be a fairly good analogy IMO.

Just be careful and above all rational about how you present your arguments, or she'll just harden her position. And keep in mind that her motivation most likely isn't to be oppressive or controlling, but to protect you. She may well be overreacting, but remember and appreciate the motivation nonetheless.

when i was younger i always just told my parents that there is a concert and there are dj's that i love coming from around the world. My parents know the whole concept of the rave scene so all you have to do is avoid mentioning the word rave or anything related to it.. when your getting ready for it dont show any candy or clothing that assimilates with our scene. And try to get someone a bit older to go with you that your parents might trust.. anyway these are the things i did to get my parents to let me go back when i was your age

when I was 15 I knew of raves, but I had no clue they existed in Buffalo, or Toronto for that matter... what can I say, I lived a rather sheltered life in that respect...

but my mom used to go to rock concerts with me back then... she's seen NiN, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, and quite a few others... but the best was when my mom decided to try crowd surfing at a Smashing Pumpkins show

I know it might feel like it cramps your style a bit, but maybe you should suggest she comes to the next Hulla with you... that way she can see for herself what's really going on, and maybe the next time after that, she won't be so harsh to judge

that doesnt cramp anyones style cause everyone listens to different typest of music but in you mothers case if she likes going to concerts like that she should like hulla.. yes the music is very different but there is that concert energy and atmosphere where she can jump around and have a great time

that's not quite what I meant by "it might feel like it cramps your style a bit"...

what I meant was that I don't know many teenagers who want to have their mom out at an event with them... most want a chance to go out without the parental units in tow... but in a case like this, it may be her best shot at getting mom to agree and have a chance to possibly change her mom's mind about what rave culture is really about

hell, I'm in my late 20's and I'd love the chance to get my mom out to just one rave... I'd like for her to understand why this is something that brings me such joy, but try as I might she keeps telling me, "I'm too old for that now."

wow i can't believe this thread is still going...i really happy!

i haven't said anything about raves or parties to my mum or dad. i think i might ask my mum if i can pay for the ticket and i go with a group and stay with them and all the safety stuff maybe she'll take a thinking into it.

i think my mum is a closet raver Lol...cause i've caught her listening to techno music and dancing to it O.o
